A favourite location for beachgoers and anyone who loves historic architecture, Palma de Mallorca never ceases to amaze travellers, whether you're visiting the Cathedral of Santa Maria or the ancient Bellver Castle. The weather is almost always perfect, with a summerlike climate.
Palma de Mallorca is filled with unique historic sites to delight the history buff. Holiday homes can be found near intriguing places like Castell de Bellver, a 14th-century castle on a hilltop with a local history museum and dramatic views of the water, and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, a historic palace and Arabian fort with cultural events. Tren Soller, a scenic electric railway that dates back to , is another historic highlight.
Palma de Mallorca holiday rentals don't have to be all history and Moorish heritage. They can also be the perfect pick for family travellers. Aqualand El Arenal is just around the bay.
It's a fully-fledged water park with gushing slides, lazy rivers and swirling water chutes that are sure to get the heart thumping. And then an odyssey under the Mediterranean Sea is made possible at the Palma Aquarium in nearby Can Pastilla — get ready for up-close encounters with reef sharks, seahorses and octopuses and diving experiences with rays. You'll be walking in the footsteps of Moorish sultans and Spanish Reconquistas as you navigate the stone-paved lanes of Palma's historic centre.
You can even bag Palma de Mallorca holiday rentals in the Old Town if you're keen to be first on the walking tours come morning. At night, leave behind the plazas and chapels for the Paseo Maritimo, where pulsing bars and tapas cantinas offer cocktails in the shade of yacht sails. For the hottest days, a jaunt to the beach is possible — Ciudad Jardin and the resort strips of Cala Major are perfect for that. Palma de Mallorca is all about outside living. With the bright beaches of Cala Major and the open-air cafes of the buzzing Paseo Maritimo on the menu, it's a good idea to plan a trip for when the sun's shining.
That's why most folk seek out their rentals in the hottest, driest months of June, July and August — the height of summer.
You're also likely to get great weather — just a little cooler — in spring, around May, and autumn, in September and October, not to mention euro-saving rates on villas and apartments.
Palma de Mallorca unfolds around the wide Badia de Palma — Bay of Palma — on the sunny south coast of Mallorca island. It's the largest city in the Balearic archipelago, but still manages to doff its cap to the beautiful nature that encompasses it. To the north rise the great Serra de Tramuntana. The rocky slopes of the carved mountain peaks are clothed with pine forest dropping down to meet the empty coves on the Med. To the east and west are where you'll find some of the most popular beaches on Mallorca, from Magaluf to Cala Major — think wide sands and transparent waters.
Palma de Mallorca has an array of beautiful beaches for sun, swim and relaxation. Holiday homes are available near places like Can Pere Antoni, a vibrant beach with calm waters for swimming, and Cala Major Beach, a quiet beach with a palm backdrop and soft sand. And HomeAway. Fully agree with what you say, I have used homeandaway a few times recently for breaks in Lanzarote with no problem, you just need to do a bit of research on the property that you are interested in.
We did have a few scams in Cala D'or in the last few years where owners sites were hijacked but I have not heard of any this year. I have used a number of these booking websites in various countries and fortunately, have not had any problems. However, I do plenty of research and build up a rapport with the owner. I always ask for a landline telephone number. I never transfer the full cost of a rental to a bank account. In fact, we have normally paid a deposit and the rest on arrival.
I deal directly with Home and Away as a manager of two apartments. Home and Away do not have any responsibility for monies paid and get their income from advertisements of the properties. They have recently introduced a new payment method through them, if the owner chooses to use this, but of course they make a charge for this service so is not over popular with owners. We have many returning clients and all are very satisfied.
Home and Away is a good site and can be trusted. Certainly there may be unscrupulous owners but this can be said of any site. As the dealings are direct with the owner or manager there are few other means of payment other than bank transfer or cheque. My telephone numbers appear on the website but this, of course, proves nothing really.
Deposits must be paid on booking of course and they are normally paid direct to the owner. Not sure how Mallorcat expects these to be paid. We had problems with this company..
