A comfortable, homely holiday cottage, sleeping 8 perfect for a family reunion. Located in the middle of Slapton, not far from the beach with parking and good. The last property sold in TQ7 2QN was Old Walls, Sands Road, Slapton, Olive House, Sands Road, Slapton, Kingsbridge, South Hams, Devon, TQ7 2QN. Olive House - 4 Bedroom pet friendly Holiday Cottage in Slapton sleeps 8 people with wifi, a garden perfect for last minute breaks.

The owner does a great job. You can also visit Blackpool Sands garden but we did not have time. Also a juggler was there on the day we went great fun for everyone.

Beautiful location but shame it a shingle beach and not sandy. Perfect venue for a sunny day! Secluded beach which is clean and tidy, with a cafe, snack bar and shop, beach equipment hire too. Stunning beach, and you can get takeaway cream tea from the cafe to have on the beach!!

A long stretch of beach with spectacular views of the sea stretching into the distance, Slapton Sands is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and for good reason. However, live ammunition and poor visibility ended in the deaths of more than servicemen, so today there is a stone monument in place for Operation Tiger, as it was called, as well as a Sherman Tank at nearby Torcross. The beach has disabled access, and also allows dogs throughout the year, so it really is fun for everyone and very easy to get to.

There is parking nearby and in the summer months from May to September there is lifeguard cover. Last, but not least, a small collection of pubs reside in Torcross for those who are feeling peckish after a long day in the fresh air, or if you have been for a nice walk along the sand! If you love the sound of the waves on pebbles this has to be one of the best beaches in the world!

A totally unspoilt stretch of beach with wild flowers and wonderfully coloured rocks. We were lucky to be staying on a stones throw away and spent a few happy hours there with our dog watching the locals beach fishing in the evenings - bliss!

Really interesting area and good walks along the coast and by the Ley. Generous provision of toilets and parking and a number of places to eat. Also very handy that there is a bus should you want to walk one way and get a bus back. Very beautiful and peaceful. Beautiful stretch of shingle beach - dogs allowed all year. Not many facilities - we went to the Strete end of the beach as there is a great little coffee hut there - great coffee and friendly staff.

Clapton Sands is beautiful. The rocks are the most beautiful colours, wild flowers abound on the beach, the views in either direction are stunning and it is rarely over crowded. One of the most wonderful areas in the U. Great place for a walk along the beach and had some great events for children at Easter. Great fish and chips in the pub at the end on Torcross. Beautiful setting and lovely property decorated to a high standard, well equipped and perfect place for a getaway to peace and quiet.

Short distance to the beach. Would definitely return. We had a super weekend at this property celebrating a family birthday. I love Beesands. The only sad thing is even more people have found out about it, 10 years since my last visit. Sadly the sea has removed the road handy for parking and is gradually eroding the cliff edges. Not as quiet as it used to be but the attractions of two nice eating places have probably increased the footfall.

There seems to be loads more space too and the higher ceiling gives light to the treats being served from the kitchen. Dave and the team in the kitchen maintain their high standards of food preparation and making dishes that look and taste fantastic, the front of house team are equally as attentive making a great relaxed dining experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Britannia so come back if you have been before and see the changes or give it a go if you never have been.

I've been coming to Beesands since I was 2 years old 61 now! Not every year since adulthood but still can't stay away. Its an ideal location for those who want to get away from it all. Its close enough to Kingsbridge and within easy reach of Dartmouth , Salcombe and Brixham. The locals are very friendly and will always be up for a chat.

Its almost tempting to keep this little coastal secret to myself! Bit scary driving down to the beach due to the narrow road but worth it when you got there. Had fish and chips and ate them on the tables that were provided while looking out to sea. We've been coming to this general area for over 20 years now and have stayed in many of the surrounding villages. This was the first time we'd stayed in Beesands - but we had walked through it on our coastal walks on many, many occasions.

We both loved the peaceful charm of the place - secluded , tranquil and away from it all. But unlike Hallsands next village along , it does have two places where you can eat The cricket Inn and the Britannia0 and they are both very good. The beach is great - shingle - but really uncrowded in June.

We were lucky with the weather and on a clear, sunny day - it is quite magical. What a shame the water is so freezing cold!! This stretch of coastline is stunning - and even if you do no other walks - walk over to Hallsands and read about the old village that was washed away in January - or just drink in the stunning views.

I love this part of Devon and it never fails to take my breath away when you stand on the coast path near the lighthouse and look back across Start Bay to Hallsands , Beesands , Torr Cross , and over towards Dartmouth. Beautiful stoney beach with views of Start Point Lighthouse. Tasty fish and chips available, popular pub and public toilets.

Britannia Fish - Great fish - always fresh and lovely family run business. A must for anyone who likes eating good fish! Ideal for quiet and peaceful holiday with two good restaurants both of which are dog friendly. Gorgeous beach, but be careful if you have a dog that likes to run as our Border Collie got very sore paws on the pebbles. A bit of a walk down from the car park but so worth it, arguably the best beach in the South Hams. We loved our stay in the Barn Cottage - which comfortably accommodated our family of 8 and our dogs!

A very beautiful house in a beautiful village! That said it really was a fabulous cottage with the most beautiful garden. A great property for a family holiday - lots of room to chill out and the lovely garden was enclosed so the children and dogs were able to play outside.

In the evening we enjoyed being able to walk to the beach or spending time sitting in the garden watching the bats emerge. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The pub down the road served great food. Slapton village is without doubt a magnificent location. The safe enclosed garden of Barn Cottage with easy access from the conservatory was a massive plus point.

Would definitely rent again despite the above mentioned little issues!! Fantastic holiday at a gorgeous cottage. Had a lovely relaxing time, fully recommended.

Will definitely book again. The cottage was easy to find on the website and showed all aspects of the property. The 3d Views on the web ssite were especially helpful for planning rooms before arrival with a large party. The kitchen was excellently laid out and equipped for us, who all took part in cooking. Built in to mark one of the most exposed peninsulas on the English coast, Start Point lighthouse was designed by James Walker and sits on a headland that runs sharply out into the sea on the south side of Start Bay near Dartmouth.

Its style is largely influenced by the Gothic movement, and the optic used was the first of its kind. Tours last around 45 minutes and are on the hour from 11am until 4pm, or 5pm in July and August. Great fish and chips in the pub at the end on Torcross April Beesands 3 miles. Close to Kingsbridge and a favourite amongst residents and holiday makers in the South West, Beesands is a wonderful mile-long shingle beach surrounded by fields and a freshwater lake. You get a real flavour of the West Country here with fresh crab sandwiches for sale nearby and lots of Devon holiday cottages within walking distance to make it really convenient.

The beach has won awards from the Marine Conservation Society as well as having The Blue Flag marker to attest to its excellence and high standards, so families and swimmers can be reassured. The beach is popular for surfing and body boarding amongst other water sports including fishing, so tackle is on sale close by.

Beesands is very much a beach for everyone thanks to its convenient location, easy and free road parking along most of the beach, level access, and the toilets, cafes and pubs close by. Dogs are also welcome on the beach throughout the year so the whole family can enjoy it!

We had a super weekend at this property celebrating a family birthday January Beautiful relaxing place to spend time. Lovely little beach, nice quiet location and free parking a bonus August Lovely spot. Easy to park, good food options. Had a wonderful meal in the beach cafe. Lovely place, good food and very dog friendly :- March North Hallsands 4 miles. A quiet beach of fine shingle with a reed bed providing the backdrop, North Hallsands is a picturesque place to visit for anyone staying in one of our holiday cottages in Devon.

We liked it so much here we came twice for dinner! Last visited this pub back in and thought we would see if it was still there. What we discovered was a gem, great atmosphere, great staff, great food, great beer and great locals. Pubs like this should be be preserved for posterity. We will definitely be back again soon. Look out for the 15 year old terrier who has a wonderful way of climbing the stairs.

Staying in the village at a nearby campsite we wanted a good reasonably priced food. Warm friendly welcome, good menu and a beautiful garden with great views when the sun is shining! Whilst obviously a local residents presence I would say most of the campsite were there. Fantastic ambience.

We went back the following night but there was a long wait for food but we stayed for a few drinks anyway. Can't wait to return. Own or manage this property? This Pin was discovered by CAROL NASH. Discover (and save) your own Pins on Pinterest. Barn in Slapton, Nr. Kingsbridge, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Totnes, South Devon, England - Unique, Peaceful Location, Just A Mile From The Sea, With. Olive House - 4 Bedroom pet friendly Holiday Cottage in Slapton sleeps 8 people with wifi, a garden perfect for last minute breaks.

Barn Cottage is a much loved, spacious family home, with plenty of living space, so all the family will be able to find somewhere to unwind. The cosy sitting room has a wood burner, and there is a separate dining room. The area is a haven for wildlife with Slapton Ley Nature Reserve accessed nearby, and indeed Barn Cottage is home to a roost of lesser horseshoe bats, a protected species. You may be lucky enough to see them emerge from the eaves at dusk from April to October.

Slapton is a perfect location for exploring this gorgeous part of the South Hams, with the south west coastal path nearby for those who love walking with the dog and Slapton Ley nature reserve for ornithologists. Entrance hall. Large sunny garden with views of the village and church with terrace furnished with garden table and chairs.

Slightly further along the coastal road towards Dartmouth, you'll find Blackpool Sands, one of the most popular beaches in Devon. Here, the golden sand and shingle beach, green pines cliffs, and turquoise waters conspire to exude an almost Mediterranean feel.

Tucked away beside the 14 th century tower that gives it its name, this is a family run pub serving excellent food in a beautiful setting. Sit outside in the sunny courtyard or let the kids run around in the rear garden in summer, or on cooler days enjoy the cosy panelled bar and restaurant. There is a wide selection of meat, poultry and fish options on the menu, all locally sourced, as well as veggie options, kids menu and popular Sunday roasts. View location on map. Wonderful pub, great food, great beer, loads of character.

Eating with a group of friends in the garden on a sunny day is just bliss! Great pub in a lovely setting offering very good food. We always visit when we stay in the area. Fantastic pub. Very welcoming and the food was incredible. Great food, great wine and great service.

Our whole experience was fantastic and I would visit again should we visit the area in the future. Charming old pub full of character. We only had a drink and didn't eat here - but they had a tremendous selection of fresh fish on the board when we visited.

Limited choice on the menu and food quite expensive for the portion size but staff very accommodating and welcoming. A beautiful, historic and friendly pub set in a delightful location and with a lovely garden. The food is excellent and certainly not the standard 'pub food'. A children's menu is also available and is more than adequate. We have visited many times and particularly like their Beer Festival in May.

Really nice atmospheric pub with very friendly and accomodating staff. Although the food was very nice and we all enjoyed our meal I thought it was quite over priced. Menu was a little odd with some items coming with accompliments and some not. Also the bar bites on the main restaurant menu not sure where they actually fit in along with small plates and also a bar chalk board making the menu a bit disjointed.

When phoned to book, we were asked had we dined there before, when we said we hadn't, we were told only the side room was available. Side room was fine but no cutlery or side plates on table unlike the other rooms and a bucket arrived to set our own! No other people in the side room and there was also tables free in the main rooms so didn't feel particularly welcome.

A lovely pub that accommodated us at short notice for my daughters birthday and the food was superb. We had a wonderful meal here. The place was lovely and staff were very friendly and were very accommodating with our dog. Would come again. Less than average food and I fail to see how the children can play in the courtyard - it's tiny and the front leads onto the road.

Impossible to pay the bill with the contactless system - you literally have to walk to a tiny area and hope the wifi picks it up. Loved this place. Fantastic ambience and food. Helpful friendly staff and locals. I very much adore the outdoor space with many interesting objects, such as chickens and incredible plants like magnolias and so on. The food is also rather good, and always makes the walk around the Ley worthwhile. A thriving free house in the heart of the village offering good value home cooked meals, a wine list to suit most tastes and real ales from local South West breweries.

Benefits from its own car park in a village where parking is limited. We visit the Queens every time we visit the area. Fantastic pub, great food, good atmosphere and there is always a warm welcome from the staff and LandLady. It's consistently a great place. Lovely warm welcome.

Traditional pub with delicious home cooked food. Great service and very friendly. We can't wait to come again. Fabulous pub, people, food, atmosphere excellent , went there for dinner most nights while we were staying in the area, had a dog with us , no problem with him being allowed in , we also had an American lady staying with us who thought it was the best pub she had been to in the world!!!!!!!

Poor quality food that you wait an unacceptable time for. Parking can be quite difficult, but very good food and service, a lovely pub with good efficient staff.

The best pub in Devon. Sandra and her husband makes everyone welcome even dogs. The food is cooked to perfection, with a nice choice of ales and ciders. One word Fantastic. Great simple pub food, very popular, therefore can get busy. Dog friendly, lovely atmosphere We will be back. The Smiths north somerset. We had a meal here on one evening which was very good.

The food portions were generous and staff friendly. Very welcoming pub, dog friendly and great food. Great if you like good home style food, good selection on menu as well. We frequently visited here while staying down the road at Torcross.

Very friendly pub with pretty walled gardens. The landlady was very welcoming and we were never disappointed by the service or the food. I would definitely return here for a visit. A proper pub with very good home cooked meals at a fair price and a very extensive range of beers and ciders.

Best dog friendly pub in the South Hams,. Friendly and welcoming staff, Brilliant selection of lunchtime and evening menus. Will be back asap! A lovely pub with good, well-cooked food, and friendly and welcoming staff. A friendly pub in a beautiful location. The menu suits all tastes and is particularly good for children. The terraced garden is well managed and is beautifully laid out and well planted.

We go here every time we are in Devon even if we have to drive an hour to get here. We ate here 4 times this year and we are always delighted we the atmosphere, the staff always remember us and they are so dog friendly, one evening there were 9 dogs in. The food is delicious and huge portions, good selection of beers, ales and ciders too.

Do not drive past here and make sure you ring an book a table, you do not want to miss out this absolute gem of a pub!! Can't wait till next year. A lovely, welcoming pub, extremely friendly towards both people and dogs!

The food was excellent and very reasonably priced and there were no less than FIVE local ciders available. Highly recommended. A very busy pub in Slapton serving great food - go early if you can to avoid a wait. This pub was fantastic. The meals were basic but very tasty and hot. The land lady was very friendly and approachable. A lovely pub with with wonderful hosts and a great menu, we visited several times whilst on holiday. We booked a table at The Queens Arms, the menu looked good and varied.

It is a charming place, set in the attractive village of Slapton. However, the service leaves something to be desired! We arrived at 6. The food was good, but the service, badly let this pub down, and we did not eat there again for the remainder of the holiday, and we would have done if the service had been better!. The saving grace was the food and the lovely barman, he was charming, shame about the rest.!

Very lovely and friendly staff, however, disappointed with the food. My fish and chips were virtually inedible due to the fish being so overcooked and the frozen chips of a very poor quality.

Sadly, we visited on our first night and therefore didn't eat there again. The garden however, was very beautiful so we did return there to sit in the garden and have a couple of drinks with our dogs.

Will be back next year Thoroughly recommended. A popular food market, deli, restaurant and garden centre in a beautiful setting with a focus on supporting local producers.

Lovely farm shop with a wide range of products available and a nice cafe. It was within easy walking distance of Torcross which was great due to the closure of the local shop. The best bit was the adjacent South Hams brewery. With a great selection of locally brewed craft ales and ciders and delicious food available from the cafe next door it was a great way to spend a damp afternoon avoiding Storm Ciara!

We should have gone here at the start of our week! Great selection of daily groceries and nice treats too - excellent artisan shops and micro brewery too! Worth a visit! Great little farm shop. Lovely fruit and bread. Great choice of produce including local cheese and Award-winning sausages. Recommend the cafe for breakfast, lunch and Sunday lunch and their own Ashridge cider.

Friendly staff. You can get a Toad Hall discount here but you have to ask as not all staff are aware. Always good to go here. Great food, breakfast is fantastic, lovely welcoming staff. We always have our cooked breakfast here whenever we are on holiday in this area. Very good quality food, plants and gifts on sale. First class farm shop. Visited for lunch with our dog. Sat outside in lovely weather. Service was quick and friendly. The burgers we had were delicious. They also do great breakfasts and have a wide range of local products and a butcher counter in the farm shop.

Great place to get fresh food at a great price, enjoy breakfast, coffee or lunch, or visit the onsite micro brewery. Always a favourite. Stayed locally, and visited Stokely Farm shop a few times. Well stocked shop and a very nice eating area providing really nice food, especially their Sunday roast which is amazing! We have had breakfast at the cafe on a few occasions, and always found these to be great quality and value for money.

Lovely staff, too. Great selection of local provisions and also home to South Hams Brewery with all beers available and reasonably prices Recommend a visit. We love this place, probably popped in most days for delicious meat, cheese and treats.

We don't eat out often as our dog is nervous around dogs that get too close so eating in can feel like a chore. But with lovely grub from a friendly shop, it becomes a treat. Plus it's supporting the local trade which is so important. Always a favourite for breakfast and for stocking up on delicious things for our holidays in Torcross.

The tractor provides seemingly endless fun for a toddler and the friendly staff are all lovely. The plants are healthy, well cared for and reasonable priced and the farm shop produce fresh and good selection. Pleasant helpful staff. One of our favourite must go to places. Great food, good setting with places to play for the kids and good little shop too.

This dog-friendly countryside pub offers a large restaurant and delightful beer garden. The menu features steaks, seafood, Sunday roasts and daily specials. Open daily for drinks and from Weds-Sun for lunch, dinner and cream teas. A beautiful refurbished pub, would definitely recommend the huge tasty Sunday lunches that they do although make sure you book. We ate here for a couple of evening meals which were first class, highly recommend it.

Lovely family meal here, very tasty. Great professional service. Dog friendly. Would definitely eat here again. Excellent food. Evening food was just as good, with a fairly big menu. We ate at this great pub several times and the welcome was very warm and the food and service was great. A warm and friendly traditional thatched pub in the heart of Stokenham with a cosy bar popular with the locals, and separate restaurant.

Enjoy sandwiches and bar snacks in the bar, or lunch and dinner in the restaurant where the award winning chef creates seasonal menus using fresh local produce. Really lovely country pub with nice atmosphere. Friendly staff, fitted us in without a booking, but make sure you do as they soon filled up. Lovely views from the beer garden. What a great Inn,landlady Kath and staff just billiant, great chef too, could not be faultede. Had a meal in the evening here on the day we arrived as it was close by and after the drive down was just the tonic.

Nice atmosphere and great service. Food was good too! We visited The Tradesmans arms many times during our stay at Stokely Barton, and what a great pub it is. Kath and her team make you feel so welcome, and provide just the right atmosphere that you want whenever you visit. Visited for dinner. Food was delicious , staff were friendly and service was excellent. Made us very welcome. Will definitely return. We went there about 3 times although only once to eat.

Lovely pub and the Sunday lunch was very good indeed. Nice thing was they offer a small portion for Sunday lunch and as neither of us are huge eaters it was much appreciated and more than adequate at a very reasonable price.

Very good atmosphere and very welcoming. Lovely pub atmosphere, and the food was outstanding! Make sure you book as people were turned away for lack of tables when we were there. We tried this pub on Sunday evening but the welcome was not very welcome and we only went there once.

Food was OK but there was better in other pubs in the area. An excellent pub we have used several times as a refreshment break mid-walk. Their sandwiches are very reasonably priced and delicious. Staff always friendly when we've visited and would recommend. Have visited this pub for past two years and the food and service have always been excellent. High class and friendly establishment. Delivery direct to your holiday home. Not going to be in?

Available throughout the South Hams. You can opt for private or group lessons, and there are toilets and changing facilities on site as well as plenty of parking. The school is two miles inland from Slapton Sands, so you can also combine your lesson with a trip to the historic D-Day training site and a wander along the beach if you fancy it!

Click here for further details. Start Bay Inn always the only place visited for food, still as good as ever. Alex and Emily are wonderfully helpful instructors and the horses excellent schoolmasters. I have had several lessons over the years from them and the standard is consistent.

I have learnt loads and will return for more. Dartmouth is a particularly beautiful part of South Devon, and at the The Dartmouth Golf Club there are two courses to visit. It is one of the South West's most comprehensive golf resorts, and has been included in Golf Monthly's list of Great Britain and Ireland's best 80 courses. The Dartmouth Course is a more relaxing par 66, nine-hole experience and offers seven-day membership as an option. Meanwhile, the Championship Course is an hole, 7, yard, par 72 course and has hosted the West Region PGA Championships on no less than six occasions.

Dress codes apply and there is a bar and restaurant on site as well as a spa. With the biggest indoor play centre in the South West full of slides, play areas, soft play, climbing adventures and ball pools, whatever the weather there is plenty to do! With 11 Play zones full of rides, attractions, and a falconry centre with daily displays there is something for everyone in this acre Family Park. My daughter and granddaughter really enjoyed this park and was amazed how big it was and how many attractions it had.

Don't expect Alton Towers- but if you want a great place to spend the day and keep the kids entertained, then this is the best there is in South Devon. I'd say better for s than anything over No matter what the weather is you'll have a day of fun. Only downside is that if your 7 year old is a bit tall for their age they will be charged an adult ticket price. The msot beatiful stratch of coastline I have walked along for a while.

We did a circular walk which included Hallsands, and the lighthouse, and would throughly recommend visiting the lighthouse, if just for the views. Be aware thought, that there are limioted ameneities - only a portacabin loo in the carpark. Stunning views from here. Great walk along from the car park, very accessible for all levels of fitness.

Visitor centre was closed when we arrived for refurbishment at the end of the season but still worth the walk. Had a really interesting tour at the end of September, which was the highlight of our holiday. Out guide, Mary, was very friendly and informative. Would highly recommend this. Fantastic location and views and very interesting history.

Thanks Mary. We really enjoyed our visit. Children under 1. Fantastic walk with wonderful views, you'll find the best beach in the South Hams hear, bit of a walk but it is glorious. Award-winning, the privately owned, blue flag beach boasts a sense of being in the Mediterranean on a good day in the summer, although a good jumper never goes amiss in this part of the world!

You will no doubt not be surprised to hear that it is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, however it also boasts ample facilities and things to do. The Venus Shop also sells all the bits and pieces you might want for fun and games on the beach if you have forgotten them or are in need of extra buckets and spades.

However, dogs are not allowed on the beach in the high season 12th March to 30th October so keep the walking for the cooler months. There is parking available at the beach with seasonal charges, and you can find out more information on those from the Blackpool Sands information line on This beach is easy to get to and quite literally fun and games for the whole family, as well as a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year to take in the view!

One of our favourite beaches, in a beautiful setting. Plenty of car parking and plenty of room on the beach, even on a busy day. The sea is clean and clear and the facilities are excellent nice to have changing rooms. Thoroughly recommend this beach. Beautiful stretch of shingle beach nestled between steep hills at either end.

Excellent facilities including one of the best beach cafes we've ever visited. We had a wonderful day at Blackpool sands.

A shingle beach within a lovely cove, it was clean and felt safe for the children to swim in the water which was also sparkling. On a busy day you would need to arrive before lunchtime, or the carpark will shut, but this also means that the beach didn't feel crowded at all.

Not good value for money. Lovely beach, not sandy but the stones are okay. Good food, beverages, coast guards, Nice view and not so cowded. Lovely clean beach in super location along coastal road. Great place to visit. Beautiful clean beach with excellent facilities. Clean toilets lovely cafe and shop. Lifeguard on the beach.

No dogs allowed. Plenty of parking. We enjoyed rock pooling at the far end of the beach.

Would definitely return. in Slapton makes a great base for exploring South Devon. Nestled in the heart of the village, Olive House is a period property filled with character and charm. This time was a reunion of sorts for my dad's retirement. We stayed in Olive House, which is 5 meters away from the pub. The staff are extremely friendly and very. The last property sold in TQ7 2QN was Old Walls, Sands Road, Slapton, Olive House, Sands Road, Slapton, Kingsbridge, South Hams, Devon, TQ7 2QN.

Important Coronavirus Update — Click Here. Your property wish list. Email your wishlist. Only downside is that if your 7 year old is a bit tall for their age they will be charged an adult ticket price December Brilliant day out for all ages. I like Woodlands because it is entertaining whatever the weather December Start Point Lighthouse 5 miles.

Good food, beverages, coast guards, Nice view and not so cowded August Secluded beach which is clean and tidy, with a cafe, snack bar and shop, beach equipment hire too July The cost of the parking steep June Our family 's favourite beach June Slapton Sands 2 miles.

We have had lovely walks along Clapton and the views are stunning February Lovely walking - June Lovely walk for wild flowers, bird watching sea views May Clean beach.

No plastic. This is certainly a lovely beach and so little rubbish. Beautiful beach right across from our Cottage September Wonderful nature reserve with well signposted walks.

The large freshwater lake, Slapton Ley Nature Reserve, is half a mile away and is a lovely place for a stroll to spot a variety of birds, and even badgers, otters and dormice. Slapton is a small, unspoilt village perched on top of a hill between Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. It's home to two pubs and a village shop and features a Grade 1 listed tower right next to The Tower Inn.

It's only half a mile from Slapton Sands which is a coastal bar stretching for 3 miles with the sea on one side and Slapton Ley nature reserve on the other. The Ley is a large body of water and is fantastic for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers but is equally welcoming to all visitors and dogs on leads.

There's a lovely circular walk alongside the Ley, up to Slapton village and back to the beach which involves some steep hills but if you're happy to retrace your steps, just walking beside the water can be very rewarding. The nearby village of Torcross is at one end of Slapton Sands and has a number of eateries, whilst the other end, Strete Gate, is much wilder and has a nudist area you have been warned! The entire stretch is dog friendly and the terrain ranges from sand and small pebbles to large pebbles which are great for skimming or building beach artworks.

You're likely to notice the old Sherman Tank in the carpark at Torcross and the memorial in the middle beach carpark: These both commemorate Exercise Tiger which was a huge tragedy in the war effort of The allied forces used the area to practise the D-Day landings as Slapton Sands had similar terrain to the Normandy beaches. Sadly, one night, things went terribly wrong and they came under a real attack losing men. The incident was kept top secret for fear of scuppering the D-Day landings but finally came to light 40 years later after the tank was discovered by a local diver.

This area is steeped in history, and if you follow the South West Coast Path from Torcross towards Start Point you'll walk past the remains of old Hallsands village which was lost to the sea during dramatic storms in So whether you're after a secluded spot for sunbathing, need space for some family fun, want to try out water sports or simply feel like fishing, Slapton Sands is a fantastic place for everyone to enjoy.

Ferry port. Primary school 4 - 11 years. Primary and secondary school 4 - 19 years. Secondary school 11 - 18 years.

Important Coronavirus Update — Click Here. Your property wish list. Email your wishlist.

From utility room access to private enclosed rear patio with garden table and chairs. Small area of lawn with garden seating. No designated parking, but parking for two cars normally available outside the house.

Alternative parking can usually be found within the village. Powered by. Checking live price Try adjusting your dates or nights. Show me only pet-friendly properties.

Lovely location within walking distance of beautiful beach. Gardens were amazing for playing and exploring. Chickens and goats were lovely to have around. All in all a beautiful short break was had by all. Beautifully renovated barn in a lovely rural setting. Excellent instructions and access. Greeted by the owners.

Well-equipped only lacking some oven gloves. Tumble dryer, washing machine and dishwasher could do with a clean out between guests but all worked fine. We loved the first floor dining area and beautiful lounge. Our family is very keen to return. Outside areas stunning. We had a great week here with kids and friends. Lovely property in beautiful surroundings. Spacious so you dont feel on top of each other.

Close to local village and stunning beaches. Really clean and well equipped and with loads of character. We can really recommend this place. We choose the barn to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary with our children and grandchildren. The barn was lovely, well equipped and in a stunning setting. Lots of outdoor space and animals for young children to enjoy. If you are disabled or have very young children you need to be aware there are a lot of stairs in the barn.

The roads in the area are very narrow so driving can be challenging, you do need to use your car if you want to eat out as the nearest village is too far to walk. Everyone enjoyed their time there and we have come away with some special memories.

Brilliant time, Dave and Jenny made us feel so welcome. The barn is beautiful! Gorgeous location. Thank you for having us xxx. Loworthy Barn is about a mile from the sea as the crow flies.
