The owner does a great job. You can also visit Blackpool Sands garden but we did not have time. Also a juggler was there on the day we went great fun for everyone.
Beautiful location but shame it a shingle beach and not sandy. Perfect venue for a sunny day! Secluded beach which is clean and tidy, with a cafe, snack bar and shop, beach equipment hire too. Stunning beach, and you can get takeaway cream tea from the cafe to have on the beach!!
A long stretch of beach with spectacular views of the sea stretching into the distance, Slapton Sands is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and for good reason. However, live ammunition and poor visibility ended in the deaths of more than servicemen, so today there is a stone monument in place for Operation Tiger, as it was called, as well as a Sherman Tank at nearby Torcross. The beach has disabled access, and also allows dogs throughout the year, so it really is fun for everyone and very easy to get to.
There is parking nearby and in the summer months from May to September there is lifeguard cover. Last, but not least, a small collection of pubs reside in Torcross for those who are feeling peckish after a long day in the fresh air, or if you have been for a nice walk along the sand! If you love the sound of the waves on pebbles this has to be one of the best beaches in the world!
A totally unspoilt stretch of beach with wild flowers and wonderfully coloured rocks. We were lucky to be staying on a stones throw away and spent a few happy hours there with our dog watching the locals beach fishing in the evenings - bliss!
Really interesting area and good walks along the coast and by the Ley. Generous provision of toilets and parking and a number of places to eat. Also very handy that there is a bus should you want to walk one way and get a bus back. Very beautiful and peaceful. Beautiful stretch of shingle beach - dogs allowed all year. Not many facilities - we went to the Strete end of the beach as there is a great little coffee hut there - great coffee and friendly staff.
Clapton Sands is beautiful. The rocks are the most beautiful colours, wild flowers abound on the beach, the views in either direction are stunning and it is rarely over crowded. One of the most wonderful areas in the U. Great place for a walk along the beach and had some great events for children at Easter. Great fish and chips in the pub at the end on Torcross. Beautiful setting and lovely property decorated to a high standard, well equipped and perfect place for a getaway to peace and quiet.
Short distance to the beach. Would definitely return. We had a super weekend at this property celebrating a family birthday. I love Beesands. The only sad thing is even more people have found out about it, 10 years since my last visit. Sadly the sea has removed the road handy for parking and is gradually eroding the cliff edges. Not as quiet as it used to be but the attractions of two nice eating places have probably increased the footfall.
There seems to be loads more space too and the higher ceiling gives light to the treats being served from the kitchen. Dave and the team in the kitchen maintain their high standards of food preparation and making dishes that look and taste fantastic, the front of house team are equally as attentive making a great relaxed dining experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Britannia so come back if you have been before and see the changes or give it a go if you never have been.
I've been coming to Beesands since I was 2 years old 61 now! Not every year since adulthood but still can't stay away. Its an ideal location for those who want to get away from it all. Its close enough to Kingsbridge and within easy reach of Dartmouth , Salcombe and Brixham. The locals are very friendly and will always be up for a chat.
Its almost tempting to keep this little coastal secret to myself! Bit scary driving down to the beach due to the narrow road but worth it when you got there. Had fish and chips and ate them on the tables that were provided while looking out to sea. We've been coming to this general area for over 20 years now and have stayed in many of the surrounding villages. This was the first time we'd stayed in Beesands - but we had walked through it on our coastal walks on many, many occasions.
We both loved the peaceful charm of the place - secluded , tranquil and away from it all. But unlike Hallsands next village along , it does have two places where you can eat The cricket Inn and the Britannia0 and they are both very good. The beach is great - shingle - but really uncrowded in June.
We were lucky with the weather and on a clear, sunny day - it is quite magical. What a shame the water is so freezing cold!! This stretch of coastline is stunning - and even if you do no other walks - walk over to Hallsands and read about the old village that was washed away in January - or just drink in the stunning views.
I love this part of Devon and it never fails to take my breath away when you stand on the coast path near the lighthouse and look back across Start Bay to Hallsands , Beesands , Torr Cross , and over towards Dartmouth. Beautiful stoney beach with views of Start Point Lighthouse. Tasty fish and chips available, popular pub and public toilets.
Britannia Fish - Great fish - always fresh and lovely family run business. A must for anyone who likes eating good fish! Ideal for quiet and peaceful holiday with two good restaurants both of which are dog friendly. Gorgeous beach, but be careful if you have a dog that likes to run as our Border Collie got very sore paws on the pebbles. A bit of a walk down from the car park but so worth it, arguably the best beach in the South Hams. We loved our stay in the Barn Cottage - which comfortably accommodated our family of 8 and our dogs!
A very beautiful house in a beautiful village! That said it really was a fabulous cottage with the most beautiful garden. A great property for a family holiday - lots of room to chill out and the lovely garden was enclosed so the children and dogs were able to play outside.
In the evening we enjoyed being able to walk to the beach or spending time sitting in the garden watching the bats emerge. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The pub down the road served great food. Slapton village is without doubt a magnificent location. The safe enclosed garden of Barn Cottage with easy access from the conservatory was a massive plus point.
Would definitely rent again despite the above mentioned little issues!! Fantastic holiday at a gorgeous cottage. Had a lovely relaxing time, fully recommended.
Will definitely book again. The cottage was easy to find on the website and showed all aspects of the property. The 3d Views on the web ssite were especially helpful for planning rooms before arrival with a large party. The kitchen was excellently laid out and equipped for us, who all took part in cooking. No plastic. This is certainly a lovely beach and so little rubbish. Beautiful beach right across from our Cottage September Wonderful nature reserve with well signposted walks. Great fish and chips in the pub at the end on Torcross April Beesands 3 miles. Close to Kingsbridge and a favourite amongst residents and holiday makers in the South West, Beesands is a wonderful mile-long shingle beach surrounded by fields and a freshwater lake. You get a real flavour of the West Country here with fresh crab sandwiches for sale nearby and lots of Devon holiday cottages within walking distance to make it really convenient.
The beach has won awards from the Marine Conservation Society as well as having The Blue Flag marker to attest to its excellence and high standards, so families and swimmers can be reassured. The beach is popular for surfing and body boarding amongst other water sports including fishing, so tackle is on sale close by.
Beesands is very much a beach for everyone thanks to its convenient location, easy and free road parking along most of the beach, level access, and the toilets, cafes and pubs close by. Dogs are also welcome on the beach throughout the year so the whole family can enjoy it!
We had a super weekend at this property celebrating a family birthday January Beautiful relaxing place to spend time. Lovely little beach, nice quiet location and free parking a bonus August Lovely spot. Easy to park, good food options. Had a wonderful meal in the beach cafe. Lovely place, good food and very dog friendly :- March North Hallsands 4 miles. A quiet beach of fine shingle with a reed bed providing the backdrop, North Hallsands is a picturesque place to visit for anyone staying in one of our holiday cottages in Devon.
We liked it so much here we came twice for dinner! Last visited this pub back in and thought we would see if it was still there. What we discovered was a gem, great atmosphere, great staff, great food, great beer and great locals. Pubs like this should be be preserved for posterity. We will definitely be back again soon. Look out for the 15 year old terrier who has a wonderful way of climbing the stairs.
Staying in the village at a nearby campsite we wanted a good reasonably priced food. Warm friendly welcome, good menu and a beautiful garden with great views when the sun is shining! Whilst obviously a local residents presence I would say most of the campsite were there. Fantastic ambience.
We went back the following night but there was a long wait for food but we stayed for a few drinks anyway. Can't wait to return. Own or manage this property?
