Thanks to a varied landscape and a year-round mild climate, Mallorca's charming capital is much-loved by tourists, business visitors and locals alike — and the city is home to half of the island's population. The historic quarter, in the south-east, is where you'll find some of the city's most important and awe-inspiring landmarks. The cathedral is the stand-out major architectural landmark and is steeped in history, having been built between and on the site of a mosque.
More recently it has seen additions to the inside by Modernist icon Antoni Gaudi and contemporary artist Miquel Barcelo, so you might want to spend a morning admiring its beautiful interiors. Directly behind the cathedral you'll find the atmospheric old town, home to some of the best restaurants in the Balearics including the Michelin-starred Simply Fosh , meaning you'll have plenty of opportunities to sample all the locals' favourite tapas dishes.
The town's maze of streets offers a real taste of authentic Mallorca and you can easily spend an afternoon or two exploring. Situated opposite the cathedral, you'll find the magnificent Palau de l'Almudaina, a royal palace, and the S'Hort del Rei gardens beneath it, which offer a tranquil an attractive spot from where to watch the world go by.
If museums and galleries are on your radar, you won't be disappointed by Palma's ample offering. The iconic Es Baluard museum, which is home to works by Miro, Dali and Picasso, is one of the island's finest, while the Museo de Mallorca depicts the history of the island and Palau March houses sculptures by 20th century icons, including Henry Moore and Rodin, and an 18th century nativity scene.
Palma is a renowned shopping destination, with designer labels, Spanish brands and boutique items all available. The city's most prestigious shopping areas can be found along Avenida Jaime III and Paseo del Borne or you can explore the cobbled side streets for a more authentic shopping experience. There's an urban beach to the east of the city, a short journey beyond the cathedral, so rest and relaxation is never far away. If you're after a quieter spot, you'll be rewarded for heading a little further east to Playa de Palma— and your hire car will help you move around the city in comfort while taking in the sights at your own pace, as well as getting out to explore the rest of the island.
January is a busy month for festivals in the city with the annual celebrations of the Procession of the Three Kings and San Sebastian the patron saint of Palma. If you're visiting in June, you'll catch Nit de Foc, one of Palma's most popular festivals, which marks the beginning of Mallorca's summer fiestas. If you're in the city at this time, expect a thrilling atmosphere that includes street parties, bonfires, fireworks and music concerts.
Underneath a seemingly ever-present sun, Palma de Mallorca is a joy for the senses and for visitors of all kinds. You will see this message only once on this Hertz website. You may see it again if you use another of Hertz's websites.

Avenida Gabriel Roca Camino Son Fangos. Absolutely bad.
Cons: Almost 60 people waiting for there cars in the warm weather of Mallorca with no shade, only 4 people in the desk working without any concerns of us waiting. Three hours of waiting later you finally arrive at the desk to be notified of a shit load of supplements that you have to pay extra of the reservation itself Worst rental car company ever!!! Pros: Everything was really simple and easy from pick-up to drop-off. I would definitely use them again especially because they have the most affordable rates!
Really happy with everything. Budget Aeropuerto De Palma. Budget not so budget minded. Nice roomy car to drive. Good site lines. Good fuel economy. Cons: I was charged many add one that I told the budget attendant I did not want, repeatedly. I had to return before car pick up and demand they take the extra charges off, which they did.
Would not use Budget Mallorca again basedo on my experience. Pros: The staff was very friendly and the car was mostly in good shape. Cons: There was some trash left in the car and the line to get to an agent took forever.
Ingeniero Gabriel Roca, 19 Bajo. Son San Juan Airport. Overcharged at return. Disseminat Aeropuerto. Cons: The rental did not say what rental car company. I assumed Ace was the company - but it was Goldcar. Not shown anywhere on the reservation.
Cons: Our reservation time upon booking through priceline defaulted to 12 pm, but our flight didn't get in until 6 pm. I had called priceline and they said not to worry about it, but when we got there, they said our rental had expired and they couldn't find us in the system. Now we had to book a brand new rental, which was of course much more expensive and included insurance we could not decline. Where the heck is ACE? Pros: Car size Have to ask where to go for ACE. Was not scheduled to pay for insurance.
Our credit card covered that. But agent insisted that if we didn't take insurance the euros charged for a 'hold' would not be returned when car was returned, but a month later and we would have to ask the credit card company for that euros. You have to pay additional insurance. Even if you had one. The only thing is the fiat , but i think i need to thank fiat for that.
Cons: First i couldnt take car without additional insurance, even if i had one. Then, i couldnt pay with my eur card as it was mastercard.
They wanted visa. There were 4 of us, so i had to discuss additional insurance amount with my tripmates. When we agreed for that eur more, there were noone to help us as this guy i was talking to went for a break.
I dont even know if i get deposit back, on the parking lot there was noone to help us. Nobody cheked the car. But its one hour left and i dont think so Pros: Cheap car, worked, no issues, Bluetooth audio on lowest priced car. Cons: The check-in clerk tried to sell me their insurance with "I hope you read the conditions" for more than the price of rental.
I said I already have an insurance from Kayak where I booked it. She started that first of all they do not work with Allianz which is the provider and that it's not possible because Allianz could not know what car they are renting me.
On the insurance conditions of Allianz, which was quarter the price they offered, there was a line that said that I should call them if the checkin clerk explains that it's not valid, I started dialling and suddenly it was possible to leave a deposit as a credit card authorization, don't get another insurance.
The car smelled of cigarettes when I got it, but it was probably cleaned and it was a residual smell. It was quite difficult to find ace at the airport. The information said it's operated by Rhodium. Which in turn is operated at the airport by goldcar. So after getting an ace car, I had to find Goldcar which was not mentioned, but I figured. Pros: The car was nice and a good price. The staff at "Goldcar" were professional. Cons: I wasn't told that I needed to pick up my Ace car at Goldcar.
Had to make an international call in Mallorca airport to help line to find out. Bought Allianz ins. Had to buy another much higher priced insurance at the counter. Then had to make 2 more international calls to find out what insurance I did purchase so I could cancel it.
Not what you want to do when you are overseas. Cons: it was horrible. Aeropuerto de Mallorca. Avenida 'Ingeniero Gabriel Roca', Cons: Unclear upsell of insurances. Never ever in my life and I hope for you too. Cons: I've been renting many cars in my life and this is absolutely the worst company on the planet and it's also a scam.
Let's start from the end, after I dropped the car I received an email with two pictures of the front seat's floors with normal dust on it. They witholded Euro 30 from the gasoline deposit to vacuum it. Infact when collecting the car they charged Euro 86 for gasoline and they were supposed to return it at return if car was returned full. So they took the freedom to keep Euro 30 form my deposit for the gasoline to vacuum the car.
Anyway, they will pay for it, dearly. Also if you don't want insurance they charge you with a Euro deposit. Overall it is a scamming company. The rental company was about 5km from the airport making it very difficult to escape this trap. Aeropuerto de Palma de Mallorca. Camino Can Pastilla. Camino de Can Pastilla Calle Marbella 53 B.
