It must do. And it really shows — Austria has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe. There are over , public university students in Vienna, and almost 3, students of private universities, making it the European-equivalent of a fun college town. Austrians can vote when they are only 16 years old, and drink when they are 18 or 16 depending on the alcohol content of the beverage.

Vienna has a high level of public utilities and transportation facilities, with almost 4, stations serving Vienna's daily commuters. Austria is a stable democracy with extremely low potential for war or civil unrest. Though political demonstrations do occur especially in Vienna , they are peaceful. Vienna is a central European city and meeting point, hosting more international congresses than any other world city a total of in As a result, Viennese culture is extremely liberal and open-minded.

Vienna is known as the City of Music due to its music culture and the world-famous classical composers — including Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, and Brahms — who have all lived there. Vienna is the only world capital with its own vineyards within city limits. The traditional Austrian wine is served in designated taverns throughout the city usually as a spritzer. Vienna is known for its city planning, and was even awarded the prestigious Scroll of Honour from the United Nations for reducing its sub-standard housing to less than 9 percent.

The Viennese can view the Emerald Unguentarium, the largest emerald in the world at 2, carets, in Vienna's Imperial Treasury. Geographically, Vienna is the capital of the continent and this definitely has its benefits. Italy, Slovenia, Hungary and Germany are easily accessible by car or train. As previously mentioned, Vienna is one of the greenest cities in Europe, hugged by lush hills and rural landscapes, and it has a lot of lovely parks to explore and hiking routes in and around the city. If craving country air, it is very easy to take a break away from the city, with fantastic vineyards and rolling hills a short train-ride away.

Vienna is also home to a number of opera houses, including the Theater an der Wien , the Staatsoper and the Volksoper , the latter being devoted to the typical Viennese operetta. Classical concerts are performed at venues such as the Wiener Musikverein , home of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra known across the world for the annual widely broadcast "New Year's Day Concert", as well as the Wiener Konzerthaus , home of the internationally renowned Vienna Symphony.

Up until , the Theater an der Wien has hosted premieres of musicals, although with the year of the Mozart celebrations it has devoted itself to the opera again and has since become a stagione opera house offering one new production each month, thus quickly becoming one of Europe's most interesting and advanced opera houses.

The museums on the history of the city, including the former Historical Museum of the City of Vienna on Karlsplatz , the Hermesvilla , the residences and birthplaces of various composers, the Museum of the Romans , and the Vienna Clock Museum , are now gathered together under the group umbrella Vienna Museum.
